The COBAL-EBEB 2027 is an international scientific event that brings together the VIII Latin American Meeting on Bayesian Statistics (COBAL) and the XVIII Brazilian Meeting on Bayesian Statistics (EBEB). Scheduled to take place from March 1 to 5, 2027, in Búzios, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The event will gather the Bayesian community—particularly from Brazil and Latin America—further consolidating its role as an important forum for scientific exchange.

 COBAL is promoted by the International Society for Bayesian Analysis (ISBA), with the support of several Latin American statistical associations, including those from Brazil, Chile, Colombia, and Mexico. Its primary goal is to strengthen the integration of Latin American researchers working in Bayesian Statistics. EBEB, in turn, has been organized biennially by Brazilian researchers since 1991 and, since 2000, by ISBrA (the Brazilian chapter of ISBA). It has played a central role in the consolidation of Bayesian Statistics in Brazil while progressively expanding its international reach. The joint realization of both events enhances their visibility and impact by fostering the convergence of different communities around shared challenges and advances.

Over the years, COBAL and EBEB have attracted internationally renowned researchers, as well as undergraduate and graduate students and professionals from a wide range of fields. This plural and collaborative environment has contributed to strengthening research in Bayesian Statistics by encouraging interaction among participants from different parts of the world, expanding research collaborations, and stimulating the emergence of new research directions.

In 2027, the event will also celebrate two important milestones in its history, marking the 25th anniversary of the first EBEB organized by ISBrA, as well as the first COBAL, both held in 2002 in Ubatuba, São Paulo, Brazil. The joint organization of these events reinforces their enduring commitment to scientific excellence and international collaboration.

The COBAL-EBEB 2027 program will feature a diverse range of activities, including a short course, invited lectures by speakers from Brazil, other Latin American countries, North America, Europe, and Australia, thematic sessions, oral and poster presentations, and activities specifically designed for early-career researchers. Contemporary and interdisciplinary topics will be highlighted, encompassing not only Statistics, but also its interfaces with areas such as Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, and Actuarial Science. Beyond its academic dimension, the event also aims to strengthen dialogue with the private sector by incorporating discussions focused on real-world problems and applications of Bayesian inference. This approach seeks to stimulate innovation, new partnerships, and broaden the impact of scientific research on society.

COBAL-EBEB 2027 is also guided by principles of diversity and inclusion, encouraging the participation of researchers from different regions and promoting gender balance among speakers and participants.
